Well....All the hard work from so many volunteers is beginning to pay off. As IMBA-SORBA has opened an additional mile of trail on the Lake Front Trail below the "Slot" rock garden. This is a corridor that was laid out over two years ago along with changes Hamilton Creek Riders have already enjoyed. Many of the trail changes, re-routes and new lines suggested by Todd Branham of Long Cane Trails had already been driven to new corridor. IMBA-SORBA Trail Stewards completed over 20,000 feet of new trail. This in addition to reclaiming trail sections that did not allow sustainable mountain bike single track. Much of the new trail in 2008 is now the Pinnacle Climb that leads riders from Ned Shelton Trail Head to the top of the Myan Pyramids and one of the gnarliest rock descents in all of Middle TN. Even more new trail and re-routes on the intermediate route allows a more negotiable exit from the "photo op drop".
These trail enhancements and upgrades have kept the trail very technical, but offered sections that flow and offer single track for each type of rider. One of the main priorities in these trail changes was to continue the rider's momentum and offer continuity from one section of trail to the next. In other words we wanted to reduce the occasional "shut down" in trail flow. We have more to accomplish, but the trail indeed offers a much more fluid feel and has eliminated most of the drastic change in pace due to reducing radius or not so fun obstacles in way of transition.
With the re-routes and new trail work concluding this summer, we will have revised kiosk maps and trail signs by September 2009. If you want to help in this project please contact us at Trails@sorbamidtn.org or make a PAYPAL contribution to the "Trail Fund" at http://www.sorbamidtn.org/
If you have not been to Hamilton Creek Mountain Bike Trail this year, you must come out and ride soon.
